Feeding the Performance Horse
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
Wednesday Jun 22, 2022
This week we tackle a robust topic and that is everything you need to know about feeding your performance horse. We start off by defining what can be considered a "performance" horse, which includes most horses that are ridden for pleasure or competition. We then start breaking down the most important nutrients for these horses. We specifically address what levels of performance impact the amount of nutrients required to keep these horses healthy and happy. We also chat about non-structural carbohydrates (NSC), sugars and starches, and how our thinking in equine nutrition has changed over the years. This is a must-listen-to podcast for any owner that rides or competes with their horses.

This week we are very excited to speak with International Event Rider Daniela (Danny) Moguel. As a young girl in Mexico, Danny started her riding career in show jumping. As she matured in the sport in Mexico, Danny set her eyes on event riding. At the time, event riding was a very male dominated sport ridden mainly by members of the Mexican military. However, she quickly established herself as a top rider and soon relocated to the United States to train under Karen O'Conner. Danny has so far led an illustrious international riding career and she shares with us her journey, her special bond with an incredible mare named Cecilia, and talks about her training and upcoming competitions throughout the world.

However, we explain why this is the exact opposite of what you need to do. We further explain how these horses must be refed slowly, which feeds to select, and what to look for.
