Increased Condition and Muscling: Case Study 16 Year Old QH Stallion
Wednesday Feb 10, 2021
Wednesday Feb 10, 2021
This week we introduce a new topic in our podcast. We present a case study of a rescue 16 year old Quarter Horse stallion who had trouble putting on condition and muscling. After a veterinary check there were no known underlying health conditions, yet the horse was not doing well. After the owner contacted the Tribute team via our website, specialists were able to evaluate the horse and its current diet. Despite the owners best efforts, this particular horse was not putting on weight. By altering the diet, which strangely enough included a reduction in total daily calories, this horse responded beautifully and put on both condition and muscling. Listen to this fascinating case study and learn just why this horse responded as well it did.

Put simple, not all horse feeds are created equal. In this week’s podcast we address the differences between fixed formulated compared to least-cost formulated feeds. We especially highlight why this information is important to any horse owner. In the podcast we first discuss what fixed formulation means and why horse owners should consider only feeding fixed formulated products. We then chat about least-cost formulated feeds and what makes them cheaper. Then we address why least-cost formulated feeds are often not better for your horse. We also give tips on how to identify which feeds are either a fixed or least-cost formulated feed, as well as advantages and disadvantages of both.

Feeding Your Horse Often
Wednesday Jan 27, 2021
Wednesday Jan 27, 2021
How many times should you feed your horse each day? The answer is not as simple as it seems. Most nutritionists suggest feeding your horse as often as possible. To tackle this issue in this episode we first chat about the physiology of the horse’s digestive system and how this impacts how often a horse should be fed. We also address the different types of feed and how this influences how fast that feed travels through their digestive system. When it comes to feeding meals to your horse, for some horses once a day might work and we discuss which situations this might be appropriate. For most owners, they feed meals twice a day just due to the labor involved. That can work for your animal and we discuss some strategies to optimize your horse's health. We then go into why feeding meals more frequently than twice a day might benefit your animal. We share some tips and suggestions, especially when it comes to the forage portion of the horse’s diet, that should benefit any horse owner.

Dr. Rambo also talks about different class of horses and what nutrients they will need to meet their dietary needs.
